I never in my life expected you to say that you dint like to be cared because all I did was always love you and care for you....always....each and every moment and you just blew it all away...all tht part of my life....just like that.....and I hate you for saying that .....I really feel devastated ....

All those many many little moments just keep coming back to me and hit me hard...really hard....because everything I did came naturally for you.....everything.....like askng if u took medicines.......or if uve eaten or whether u slept... or whether u completed ur assignment or whether ur up for office or not.....and all those silly jokes.....silly mails, sms I sent...were just to make you smile.....because tht one smile was very precious for me.....whenvr u cried I wanted to cry with you....because i nvr wanted u to suffer alone....i wanted to share your pain....and be a part of ur happiness too.....it wasn't a joke for me.....it reallly meant life to me....something really special......a lot...

But I knw if I'll talk to you all i'll do now is hurt you more and fight with you......and I dont want my feelings for you to change...I dont want to hate you.....because you dont deserve tht.....and I dont want you to suffer because of no fault of yours...I understand tht....and I knw u had no clue and its not your fault....plz never never feel tht way.....

Well I was trying to stay out of this discussion as I feel really strongly bout this, but as I am in high ‘spirits’ I am inclined to say a few things J.

Socialism and capitalism are two words we use so easily as highly ‘educated’ people.. every one of us holds strong views bout these concepts.. but v r just bookworms out of a classroom system.

V have no idea about wat v feel, wat the world should be like, and wat it is right now…. I am a person torn between Che Guevara and Ayn Rand. One is an out an out socialist, and the other is an out an out capitalist. To us they are just rigid concepts, but I think they r things that r out of the scope of this mail. So I will try n discuss the issue n not digress..

First of all, screw economics (sorry to wake up all the eco grads, I think only swati and kaaaa, but it really does), it is more faff than HBO (my views again, OGTR may differ J ). Economics never helps people. It never views humans as humans, it just views them as tools of production. Man, that’s wat machines are for. If machines cant produce enough for u, stop being bloody greedy and start helping people. So Sumanth I do not concur with ur views of prof ashra. Wat he means to say is that start thinking of the enterprise, but don’t think of the people comprising of the enterprise. If the people are not happy, no matter wat u pay them, how much u burden them, they will never be productive (that’s wat I feel, maybe wrong according to the low eco scores I get).

Secondly, I would like to clarify that im not a socialist. I like to think of myself as a capitalist. But to me capitalism is not exploitation. It is the best that humans have in them. It is the most enterprising ppl that help the world grow. It is a few humans that sustain development with leeches on their backs (ala Ayn Rand). But it definitely does not mean exploitation. A lot of us seem to think that capitalism means exactly that. It makes me wonder wat kind of Change Masters we would be if we do business with exploitation as our motive.

Coming to the issue of the mess workers.

I agree the college does provide them with food and lodging. But do they provide them the minimum wage rate?????? Food and lodging are just hygiene factors ( perks, just using some OB faff). But they do not count as any salary. The labor laws stipulate that people must receive 82.3 rs per day (constituting of 8 hrs of labor a day) as minimum wages. If Vivek is accurate, they receive just 50 bucks for 14 hrs of labor, when they should actually get around 150 per day. Then how is it that the college is just giving them just 50.

I feel ashamed that my college is exploiting ppl, just because the workers don’t have a better option. Because they get exploited everywhere, it does not mean that they get exploited in a highly esteemed college like ours too. That just makes us slave drivers. And that according to me is just plain shameful. A college that claims to take the moral high ground on things, cannot escape labor laws. If they say they cannot permit liquor in parties as they do not have liquor license (which must be one of the most non consequential issues in a college), they definitely cannot ignore labor laws.

I would just conclude by saying that it is great if we want to improve their lives by educating them, it is great to feel that they can be better than wat they are (which im sure they can be), but let us at least start by stopping their exploitation. Let us at least treat them as humans, and not just machines that can be exploited for maximum production at minimum cost (marginal cost, is it??).

I used to agree 100% to that and let me tell u about an initiative by a guy called Vinod Chowdhary (now a TCS guy), he started an organization teaching mess workers (and I was one of the 5 volunteers to listen to him) and yes he got success as well today the organization started by him runs a school as well, but the students are not mess workers………. They never were especially the guys from eastern UP and Nepal as they r not the one who did not got education but one who ran from their home as Vivek rightly said for Bollywood and I mean it guys….

I might sound as pessimistic but that’s what I learned from my experience. And yes if u get a guy from Bihar, do teach him, he will surely make it big…. That also I learned from my little life…..

They beg coz it’s the easiest way out …………

Don’t believe try calling a beggar to do some job for which u will pay him/her 100 rupees and see if they do it………….

and all of us started clapping

now if ur education teaches u to calculate the worth of ur motherland, how much ur mother is worth in the market then is that education of any good.

Cant blame education , but if u have only money and finance on ur mind then it is bound to corrupt ur mind. Human values can go to the gutter, right?

Education is not to be blamed; its how u educate urself from what u study.

It was 3 PM .....I had just had my lunch well sort of........and was feeling really sleepy.......I know work is what is to be done at that time......but as u all know.....I never keep anything for the afternoons.......so went to 2nd floor in Bldg 14.....where the newspapers are kept.....wonder why we dont have one at the third floor.......anyways to my surprise there were 2 girls sitting there and reading of all papers...Economic Times..........that is when i thought "Times" have changed........dunno whether for the good or bad........

I settled my self and sifted thru the pprs.....the frst thng that caught my mind was a news article abt electricity cuts faced by Pune......and MSEB (for those who dont know....MSEB=Maharashtra State Electricity Board)....was a sitting duck ......turning a blind eye..........Wonder why we never had power cuts at Infy........i mean it wud be fun to be one with nature sometimes.......but then we have the damn UPS connections...24hr electricity supply ..nonstop.....so cant do much abt it.......

Open the next page and what do i see.....sharukh....smoking a cigar.....with what seemed brown fumes all over....surrounded by skimpily clad women.....wow.....just then from the corner of my eyes I saw the other girl peeping in the paper.......just then i thot enuf was enuf..........i wud tell the grl to not to look into the paper........i stood up like Alexander would have to fige against Porus....and one glance frm the girl and i fizzled out........i quickly turned my direction and headed off to my cubic.....

Rest of the day I spent thinking why but why wasnt i able to tell that gal anything......was i meek.....no im not as my frnds have told me.......i was physically intimidating too.......so what was i lacking.......just then my inner voice helped me out......i lacked the coolness quotient.......ok.......step 1 solved so whts step 2 now.....how do i become cool......its nt tht i wud sit in a refrigerator and become cool.....tht will only kill me.......Then suddenly out of nowhere i got an idea....the image of sharukh transpired b4 my lusting eyes.......finally i had the idea.......smoking wud make me cool......

.6 pm.......time to go home.....caught the baner road bus....with the usual souls......some smiles and off we went......the entire evening i was planning how will i make the kill......how will i approach the paanwaala...for a ciggy........wht if he told some1......wht if he tells my parents.......i was really apprehensive abt these gut smacking questions.......thus i had a plan........(planning is what i learnt the effectively in this industry....)My plan was to get downa stop before.......bye a ciggy........frm a shop owner who does know any1 remotely close to me.......walk home as soon as possible......as none of my roomies wud be home till tht time........all of those mortals work late.......none of em, are as efficient as me........

Evrything went as per the plan.....got down one stop b4.......bought the ciggy.......started trotting towards home......it was a cold evening........chill air blowin accross.......but i was in the world of my own.....i said to myself today wud be the day i wud become cool.......today i wud feel what half the adult world feels like after smokin a ciggy.......it was as if i wud lose my virginity today......altho there wuldnt be any1 else involved........just as i was about to enter my house......

i got a call......frm one of my roomies asking fr tiffin.......i was feeling like slamming the fone......but thot of the number of salaries i wud loose.....so i simply told me no.....thnks....and entered the house.........Ok......this was it........i was about to take the plunge.....with the ciggy in one hand.......and a match box in the other....went to my balcony.....i thot......the col air wud add to the ambience.........then i took the stick and placed it between my lips.....cudnt feel anything cuz my lips were hardened bcoz of the unusually cold breeze...... lighted the frst matchstick.....was just about to light the ciggy ...when a gush of wind blew it away........the second one didnt come off........had to curse the matchstick producer fr putting so less asbestos on it.......this time I didnt want to take any chance....so curled dwn so no wind cud reach me and the match stick.......lighted it and was about to light the ciggarete...when i heard a loud thumping sound.......the ciggrette fell down the balcomy inot the oblivion.....the matchstick was cruched becoz of my clenched fists.........

For a second i cudnt see anything...but hose seconds turned to a few minutes........i strted fearing......maybe god punished me.....hes made me blind so tht i cudnt see any ads...specially sharukh khan ones.........i gathered some courage and went out of the balcony....then i saw some rays of light as if it was some divine being.....who has come to take me to heaven.........but upon closer inspection it was the doctor.......who lives in front of my house.......he told me that the wind hasd snapped one of the elctrical lines at MSEB.......and thus the darkness........ thn got busy helping him get the lines restored......after that was done me and the doc went to his house who had a guest...he seemd to be shy...was wearing a mask i dunno why.....jus then the doc tld me the guy was his patient....he had cancer.....he used to smoke......and then he stopped.......

my heart started pounding at a tremendous pace.......jus a few seconds b4 i was about to take a plunge into darkness.......but no i hadnt taken the plunge.....i was saved by............MSEB.....and their old electrical lines........Period................

Does that piece of news even deserve to be national TV?

These are some questions that come in the mind of our “average” Indian viewer.But a far more intriguing question is what is the criterion used by these news channels.
What goes into the making of the so called “breaking news”?

First let us find what breaking news is exactly.
In the time before the time breaking news was a term used to signify events which were of monumental importance or were gargantuan in nature.

Like for example the landing of man on moon or a nuclear explosion or for that matter the death of a “head of state” (wonder why that is not happening now days. On second thoughts there are not many “heads of state” that remain and those who do are mere pawns in the hands of more tyrannical people.).

Also breaking news was used only in cases of news pieces which were rare in nature.Examples of this could be India winning the World Cup or winning ONE BRONZE MEDAL at Olympics.

So at this point and scope we can safely assume that breaking news has its roots in power, money, fame and also infamy.
But why has that changed now days.Why do we have breaking news on the drop of a hat?Sensex crosses 10K……breaking news….
